Maut Aur Tum – Anubhav B. N. Pal

Some poems speak about death, while others reveal how love continues to exist even after it. “Maut Aur Tum” by Anubhav B.N. Pal is one such deeply emotional Hindi poem that blends love, longing, memory, and mortality into a moving literary experience. Rather than portraying death as the end of a relationship, the poem imagines love surviving beyond the grave through memories, fragrance, and silent promises.

What makes this poem especially touching is its delicate symbolism. A forgotten white dupatta, the sound of anklets, a lonely grave, and the scent of a loved one become powerful reminders that genuine love refuses to disappear. Through simple yet evocative language, Anubhav B.N. Pal creates a poetic world where separation cannot erase emotional connection.

POEM

MAUT AUR TUM

By Anubhav B.N. Pal

Meri laash dekhkar dosto,
yeh mat sochna ki kafan par kharcha hoga.

Meri almaari khol kar dekhna,
uska safed dupatta rakha hoga.

Aksar bhool jaaya karti thi woh yeh dupatta,
dobara milne ke bahaane.

Qabr par milne aa jaaye shayad,
dupatta dhoondhne ke bahaane.

Jab keedon ne kha li hogi
khaal ki aakhri parat meri,

Aur uski payal ki jhankaar se
agar phir se jaag uthe rooh meri,

To ghabrana mat dosto,
mujh par ek ehsaan karna.

Uske maashooq ko mujhe dikhana,
mujhe dobara dafn karna.

Meri rooh Khuda ko ata tab hogi,

Aakar jab woh meri qabr par khadi hogi.

Meri qabr par pehla phool tab khilega,

Hijr ka aansu uski aankhon se jab girega.

Uske dupatte ki khushboo se
mujhe itna maaloom hai,

Farishte khafa hain,

Jahannum mein yeh kaisa mahaul hai?

Khuda se shikayat kar rahe hain sab,

“Yeh naainsaafi kya hai?

Is gunahgaar ko itni rehmat kaise ata hai?”

Aur yeh sab meherbaani mujh par
isliye ho rahi hai,

Kyuki meri rooh
tumhare dupatte se jo lipti padi hai.

A LOVE THAT CONTINUES AFTER DEATH

From its very first lines, Maut Aur Tum presents death not as a tragedy but as a continuation of love’s journey. The speaker shows little concern for his own funeral or burial. Instead, his thoughts remain fixed on the woman he loves and the possibility that she may one day visit his grave.

The repeated references to her forgotten dupatta transform an ordinary object into a symbol of affection, remembrance, and hope. Even after death, the speaker believes that love can still find its way back through the smallest memories.

THE SYMBOLISM OF THE DUPATTA

One of the poem’s most beautiful literary devices is the recurring image of the white dupatta. It represents far more than a piece of clothing—it becomes a bridge between two souls separated by death.

The speaker imagines his beloved returning merely to search for the forgotten dupatta. Yet beneath this simple act lies a deeper longing: the desire for one final meeting, one final presence, and one final reminder that love once existed.

By choosing such an everyday object, the poet makes the emotions feel personal and relatable.

LOVE, JEALOUSY, AND THE PAIN OF LETTING GO

One of the poem’s most heartbreaking moments arrives when the speaker imagines seeing his beloved with someone else. Rather than asking for revenge or expressing anger, he quietly requests that his friends bury him once again if that day ever comes.

This unexpected twist reveals the emotional complexity of love. It captures the silent jealousy, helplessness, and acceptance that often accompany unfulfilled relationships.

The pain is expressed with remarkable restraint, making the emotions even more powerful.

SPIRITUAL IMAGERY AND POETIC IMAGINATION

As the poem progresses, it moves beyond earthly love into a deeply spiritual space. The grave, the soul, angels, heaven, and divine mercy all become part of the narrative.

The poet imagines that even the fragrance of the beloved’s dupatta follows his soul into the afterlife. In one of the poem’s most imaginative passages, the angels question why such extraordinary mercy is being shown to someone they consider a sinner.

This beautiful blend of romance and spirituality gives Maut Aur Tum a distinctive emotional depth that stays with the reader long after the poem ends.

SIMPLE LANGUAGE, PROFOUND EMOTIONS

One of Anubhav B.N. Pal’s greatest strengths is his ability to communicate deep emotions through accessible language. The poem avoids complicated metaphors or difficult vocabulary, allowing every image to speak naturally.

Whether describing a forgotten dupatta, the sound of anklets, or the silence of a grave, every verse feels intimate and cinematic. Readers do not simply read the poem—they experience its emotions alongside the speaker.
