After numerous delays, Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated film ‘Emergency’ is finally slated for release on September 6, 2024.
The actress-turned-politician, who had postponed the film earlier this year citing commitments to her Lok Sabha 2024 election campaign, took to Instagram to announce the long-awaited release date. Alongside a striking new poster, Kangana expressed her excitement about the film hitting the big screens.
Inspired deeply by William Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’, Kangana described ‘Emergency’ as a narrative that explores the consequences of unchecked ambition in the context of Indian democracy. She emphasized that the period of Emergency declared in 1975 was one of the most sensational chapters in the history of independent India.
In her Instagram post, Kangana wrote, “The Beginning of the 50th Year of Independent India’s Darkest Chapter. Announcing #KanganaRanaut’s #Emergency In Cinemas on September 6, 2024. The Explosive Saga of the Most Controversial Episode of the History of Indian Democracy, #EmergencyOn6Sept in cinemas worldwide.”
The film centers around the controversial tenure of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, portrayed by Kangana Ranaut. The Emergency period, which lasted for 21 months, was marked by significant political upheaval and debates over civil liberties.
Apart from Kangana Ranaut, the film boasts a talented ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, and the late Satish Kaushik.
Produced jointly by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, ‘Emergency’ features music by Sanchit Balhara, with the screenplay and dialogue penned by Ritesh Shah.
Fans and critics alike are eagerly anticipating the release of ‘Emergency’, expecting Kangana Ranaut to deliver a compelling portrayal of a pivotal moment in Indian political history.
