Rapper Naezy, a trailblazer in the Indian rap scene known for his breakthrough track ‘Mere Gully Mein’ alongside Divine, has highlighted a significant shift in the genre’s lyrical focus and discussed his motivations for joining the reality show ‘Bigg Boss OTT 3’.
In an exclusive interview with Press, Naezy, whose real name is Naved Shaikh, emphasized the evolving preferences within rap and hip-hop in India. “People are now more concerned with emotions and storytelling rather than the stereotypical themes of women and alcohol,” he remarked. The 30-year-old artist underscored the role of authenticity in preserving the essence of rap, attributing a positive change in lyricism to artists like himself who have brought new narratives to the forefront.
Reflecting on his journey from Mumbai’s Ram Bachan Chawl to mainstream success, Naezy described it as “very interesting,” marked by both challenges and triumphs. “I have experienced the highs and lows, from the bottom to the top. It’s been an exhilarating journey that I cherish,” he shared, expressing gratitude for the opportunities to represent India globally through his music.
Naezy’s impact on the rap scene was further amplified by the 2019 film ‘Gully Boy’, which drew inspiration from his life story and starred Ranveer Singh, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Alia Bhatt. Looking ahead, he expressed aspirations to delve into Bollywood post his stint on ‘Bigg Boss OTT 3’, aiming to undertake “historic endeavors” within the industry.
When asked about his decision to participate in ‘Bigg Boss OTT 3’, hosted by Anil Kapoor, Naezy revealed his desire to leverage the platform for broader outreach. “I want to reach a larger audience, share my message, and win hearts,” he stated candidly, outlining his motives for entering the controversial reality show.
Despite entering the show without prior strategy or familiarity with its dynamics, Naezy remains optimistic about the experience, aiming to make a genuine impact through his participation.
